Important Individual Tax Deadlines for March 2026

March marks a critical turning point in the tax season. At Get Balanced CPA, our team is already deep in the workflow, helping our clients in Cumming and beyond navigate their filings with clarity and control. While April 15th gets all the attention, March holds a few key dates that are essential for maintaining compliance and keeping your stress levels low.

Here is your tax calendar for March 2026.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For those working in service-based roles—or if you manage employees who do—reporting gratuities is a strict requirement. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report them to your employer by March 10 using IRS Form 4070.

You can use the official form or a formal statement that includes:

  • Your signature, name, address, and Social Security number.
  • Your employer’s name and address.
  • The specific period the report covers (February 1–28).
  • The total tips received.

Why this matters: Your employer uses this data to withhold the correct FICA and income taxes from your regular wages. If reporting is missed, or if your regular wages can't cover the withholding, the uncollected amount will appear in Box 8 of your W-2, and you will owe that balance when you file your annual return.

March 16: The "Get on the Schedule" Deadline

Technically, your individual income tax return is due in April. However, practically speaking, March 16 is the cutoff to guarantee a smooth filing process. If you haven't booked your time with us yet, we strongly encourage you to reach out now.

We know that our clients—whether you are a busy surgeon, a real estate professional, or running a dual-income household—are strapped for time. Please do not feel you need to have every single receipt perfectly organized before you call. If you are missing documents, we will simply create an "Open Items" list and move forward.

A Note on Extensions

Sometimes, filing an extension is the smartest strategic move. It gives us the time to ensure accuracy without the pressure of a looming deadline. Even if we extend the filing, we still need to prepare a preliminary return to estimate any tax owed by April to minimize interest and penalties. We handle the extension filing for you, so you can breathe easier.

Standard IRS Calendar Rules

Weekends & Holidays

The IRS rule of thumb remains: if a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline is pushed to the next business day.

Disaster Area Extensions

The IRS frequently adjusts deadlines for taxpayers located in federally declared disaster areas. If you believe this applies to you, please check the official resources below to see if your location qualifies for relief:
